CSSC’s Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) recently held a steel-cutting ceremony for the second 40,000 dwt MR I chemical/product tanker built for the French company Socatra, marking the full-scale construction of both vessels in the series. Construction of the first vessel in the series began on April 20 of this year.
The series comprises two vessels, each measuring 180 meters in overall length, 32 meters in beam, and 18.3 meters in depth. They represent an MR I-type tanker independently developed and designed by GSI.
Compared to conventional MR II tankers, the MR I type offers greater operational flexibility, allowing access to a wider range of ports and making it well-suited for the short- to medium-haul transport of refined petroleum products and chemicals.
These vessels comply with IMO Tier III emission standards and meet the Phase 3 requirements of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI). They are high-performance, eco-friendly, energy-efficient, and low-carbon tankers, boasting comprehensive performance and economic efficiency that rank among the best internationally.
