Fujian Mawei Shipyard Wins Order for 2+4 900 m² PSVs from Union Vega Offshore

Union Vega Offshore has placed an order for two firm 900 m² Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs), with options for an additional four vessels, based on Breeze Ship Design’s next-generation Z 4409 PSV design.

The vessels will be constructed at Fujian Mawei Shipyard, with delivery scheduled for first vessel in 2028. Measuring 84 metres in length, the new design incorporates battery-hybrid propulsion, a moonpool, and accommodation for up to 44 personnel. The vessels are also prepared for the future installation of a 50-tonne Active Heave Compensated (AHC) crane, enhancing their operational flexibility and capability.

Developed with a strong focus on functionality, efficiency, and adaptability, the Z 4409 PSV has been designed to support a wide range of offshore operations. In addition to conventional platform supply duties, the vessel is well suited for light construction activities, geophysical and seismic support operations, providing operators with a versatile platform capable of serving multiple offshore market segments.

The order marks an important milestone for both Union Vega Offshore and Breeze Ship Design, reflecting continued market confidence in innovative and future-oriented vessel solutions that address the evolving needs of the offshore industry.

Union Vega Offshore is a joint venture between the British shipowner Union Maritime and the Norwegian shipowner Vega Maritime, established in April 2026. The order for 2+4 Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs) placed with Mawei Shipyard marks the joint venture’s first-ever newbuilding contract.

Based on information disclosed by Fujian Shipbuilding, this PSV order was signed on October 17. However, the shipbuilder has publicly stated that the order is for 2+2 vessels. This order also marks Union Maritime’s first foray into the offshore engineering market.

Notably, in addition to the offshore vessel project, Mawei Shipyard is also constructing eight 113,600 DWT product tankers for Union Maritime. These tanker orders were announced in 2024 and 2026, with deliveries scheduled between 2027 and 2029.
