Hudong-Zhonghua Hits Key Milestones for Three Fifth-Gen 174,000 cbm LNG Carriers

On June 17–18, Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding completed key milestones for three of its fifth-generation LNG carriers: one vessel (hull number: H1888A) returned safely to port after sea trials, and two vessels (hull numbers: H1891A and H1796A) were successfully launched.

The H1888A, a large LNG carrier with a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters, has successfully completed its “two-in-one” sea trials. Hudong-Zhonghua optimized the sea trial process and completed all commissioning tests. Prior to the gas station trials, the sea trial team worked diligently to complete endurance tests of the propulsion system in both gas and fuel modes, unmanned engine room trials, and ship speed trials.

The two 174,000 cubic mete LNG carriers, H1796A and H1891A, were successfully launched. H1796A is the seventh and final vessel in the first phase of the Qatar Energy project. H1891A is part of the CNOOC series; for the first time during a dry-dock period, grinding and coating operations were completed on both the interior and exterior areas of the cargo machinery room, marking a new breakthrough in launch integrity and coating integrity.

Hudong-Zhonghua’s fifth-generation LNG carrier has an overall length of 299 meters, a beam of 46.4 meters, and a draft of 26.25 meters. It features the latest-generation twin-rudder hull design and incorporates multiple low-carbon, energy-efficient technologies.

Compared to previous LNG carriers, it offers lower overall energy consumption, superior cryogenic performance, greater cargo capacity, and agile maneuverability and operational maintenance. It can reduce daily carbon emissions by more than 10 tons, It can access 120 LNG terminals across all continents, demonstrating exceptional global navigability.
