China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Yangzhou Dingheng Shipyard recently announced the results of the invitation to tender for six 49,400 DWT (EPS design) and four 49,900 DWT (PMD design) main engines, naming Hengli Engine (Dalian) Co., Ltd. as the selected supplier. Hengli Engine was also the sole supplier invited to bid for these ten marine main engines.
Much like the leapfrog growth of Hengli Heavy Industries’ shipbuilding business, Hengli Engine—established just four years ago—is continuously setting new benchmarks for industry progress and reshaping the landscape of the domestic marine engine supply chain.

Corporate registration records indicate that Hengli Engine (Dalian) Co., Ltd. was established in July 2022 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hengli Heavy Industries Group.
In July 2023, Hengli Engine signed a patent licensing agreement with the German engine manufacturer MAN Energy Solutions (now renamed Everllence), officially launching its engine manufacturing operations. By the end of the year, the company obtained quality management system certification from the China Classification Society, marking its formal entry into the marine engine manufacturing market.
In March 2024, Hengli Engine commenced production of its first engine; notably, the in-house manufactured crankshaft achieved “inspection-free” status. In September, the company successfully delivered its first engine, marking a breakthrough from “zero to one” and overcoming the bottleneck in shipbuilding where “ships wait for engines, and engines wait for crankshafts.”
In October 2025, Hengli Engine delivered its first LPG dual-fuel engine. That same year, the Phase II final assembly workshop was put into operation; this facility ranks among the world’s most advanced final assembly workshops for high-end marine engines in terms of production equipment capabilities.
In April 2026, the first domestically produced 8G95 LNG dual-fuel engine—model 8G95ME-C10.5-GI-EcoEGR—was successfully delivered by Hengli Engine, filling a gap in the domestic manufacturing sector for dual-fuel engines of this power class. Standing 16 meters tall and weighing over 1,600 tons, it delivers a maximum power output of 74,725 horsepower, making it the most powerful high-pressure natural gas dual-fuel engine produced in China to date.

Hengli Engine previously disclosed that since its establishment in 2022, the company has grown within four years into the largest single-site marine engine manufacturer in China. It boasts an annual production capacity of 180 marine engines and offers a comprehensive portfolio of low-carbon and zero-carbon dual-fuel engines—capable of running on LNG, LPG, methanol, and ammonia—with production orders already scheduled through 2030.
Hengli Engine is backed by Hengli Heavy Industries, formerly known as STX (Dalian) Shipbuilding. Since commencing full-scale production in early 2023, Hengli Heavy Industries has risen to the ranks of the world’s leading private shipbuilding enterprises, securing orders for over 500 vessels with delivery schedules extending to 2030.
In the first half of 2026, Hengli Heavy Industries secured orders for 207 new vessels, setting dual records for order volume and vessel-type diversity at a single shipyard. The company has moved beyond traditional newbuild projects—such as container ships, bulk carriers, and oil tankers—and is expanding its order portfolio into high-value-added segments like gas carriers.
Since its inception, Hengli Heavy Industries has pursued a “dual-drive” strategy of shipbuilding and marine engine manufacturing; by overcoming various industry bottlenecks, it has gradually evolved into the world’s largest single-site shipbuilding base with the most comprehensive supporting facilities.
