Greek shipowner Pantheon Tankers announced that it recently took delivery of the “Sea Topaz”, the first of a series of 158,000 DWT Suezmax oil tankers built at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Ulsan shipyard.
The Greek-flagged Sea Topaz is set to enter commercial service, while its sister vessel, Sea Quartz, is scheduled for delivery in late 2026. The total cost for the two new vessels is approximately $176 million.
This marks a resumption of collaboration in new shipbuilding between Pantheon Tankers and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries after more than a decade. The shipowner previously ordered multiple VLCCs from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in 2015, and this project for two Suezmax tankers reinforces the long-standing partnership between the two parties.
In recent years, Pantheon Tankers has primarily awarded its newbuilding contracts to Chinese shipyards, collaborating with builders such as New Times Shipbuilding, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, and Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC).
Most recently, in February 2026, Pantheon Tankers announced an order for two 157,000 DWT LNG dual-fuel Suezmax tankers from COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Yangzhou), with delivery expected in 2028.
Prior to this order, COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Yangzhou) had just completed a project for Pantheon Tankers involving four 114,000 DWT Aframax/LR2 product tankers.
Pantheon Tankers’ fleet list indicates that the owner currently holds orders for five new vessels: two VLCCs from DSIC, two LNG dual-fuel Suezmax tankers from COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Yangzhou), and one Suezmax tanker from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. The company also operates a fleet of over 40 existing vessels.
