On October 16, Huayuan Star Shipping and Jiangsu Haitong Offshore Engineering Equipment Co.,Ltd.(JSHT) held a signing ceremony in Shanghai for the construction of two 85,000 DWT bulk carriers. According to the earlier tender results, JSHT will deliver the vessels to the shipowner by December 30, 2028.
Both new vessels are methanol-fuel-ready vessels designed for dual domestic and international trade operations. They will primarily serve coal transportation for power plants along the southern China coast within the system. Upon completion, Huayuan Star Shipping’s owned fleet capacity will increase to 504,000 deadweight tons.
Sun Jun, Party Committee Member and Deputy General Manager of Huadian Coal Industry Group, pointed out that Huadian Coal Industry Group has established a complete industrial chain centered on the coal industry, integrating coal, power, railways, ports, and shipping. As a vital link in the company’s integrated industrial chain, Huayuan Star Shipping plays a crucial role in enhancing the resilience and security of the coal industry chain and supply chain by driving its growth and expansion. He expressed hope that both parties would collaborate closely to strengthen quality, schedule, and cost control management, ensuring the timely delivery and high-quality commissioning of both vessels.
Huayuan Star Shipping and JSHT stated that they will leverage this agreement as an opportunity to fully utilize their respective strengths. Through professional and efficient collaboration, they will ensure the smooth progress of the 85,000 DWT bulk carrier construction project and jointly contribute to the green transformation and development of the shipping industry.
