Imabari Shipbuilding Delivers Ammonia/Methanol-Ready 13,900 TEU ONE Sapphire to ONE

On June 12, Imabari Shipbuilding delivered the 13,900 TEU ammonia/methanol-ready container ship ONE Sapphire to Ocean Network Express (ONE).

“ONE Sapphire” is 335.94 meters long, 51.00 meters wide, 30.10 meters deep, with a gross tonnage of 140,233. It is equipped with a 7G95ME-C10.6 main engine, a speed of approximately 22 knots, is classed by Lloyd’s Register (LR), flies the Singapore flag. And it can be converted to methanol/ammonia fuel and installed with a carbon capture system in the future.

The vessel can carry up to approximately 13,932 standard containers and is equipped with up to four layers of lashing bridges on the deck, enabling it to carry a large number of refrigerated containers in the hold and on deck, as well as various dangerous goods specified in the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code.

The vessel uses the latest analysis technology to develop an optimized vessel type that pursues high efficiency based on the vessel speed and draft depth during high-frequency navigation; excellent fuel efficiency is achieved through the use of energy-saving devices, twisted rudders, and hull coatings that reduce friction with seawater; it is expected to achieve a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of approximately 60%, far exceeding the latest requirements; and the use of a bow wind cover device further improves the vessel’s performance during actual navigation.

In addition, to comply with sulfur oxide (SOx) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emission restrictions, the vessel is equipped with a hybrid exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS) and an exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR). Other environmental measures include a ballast water treatment system and an inventory list that complies with the Ship Recycling Convention.

It is worth mentioning that ONE’s first 13,000 TEU ammonia/methanol-ready container ship, the ONE Sparkle, was named in mid-February this year. The ship was built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.
