Yangzijiang Maritime Sells Six Newbuild Tankers Across Two MR Types

On October 26, Yangzijiang Maritime, a listed company under the Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, announced that it has signed contracts for the sale of six newbuild tankers. These include two 49,500 DWT MR tankers scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2027, and four 49,800 DWT MR tankers slated for delivery in 2027 and 2028.

To date, within 10 months of its listing, Yangzijiang Maritime has signed a total of 18 shipbuilding contracts, with an aggregate value of US$805 million.

Yangzijiang Maritime has not disclosed information regarding the buyers or the shipyards involved. In April of this year, the company announced the sale of four 49,800 DWT MR product tankers; with this latest sale, the total number of 49,800 DWT MR product tankers that the company has disclosed for sale has reached eight. It is speculated that these eight 49,800 DWT MR tankers may have been built by Jiangsu Haifeng Shipbuilding.

In December 2025, Yangzijiang Maritime placed orders for 16 new vessels across three types with three Chinese shipyards (comprising 6 firm orders and 10 options). Among these, Haifeng Shipbuilding was contracted to build 2+6 MR product tankers, each with a capacity of 49,800 deadweight tonnes (DWT); these vessels are also scheduled for delivery between 2027 and 2028.

According to an announcement by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding on September 18, the company’s newbuild orderbook (including options) totals 98 vessels. This comprises: 7 vessels already delivered (including 1 vessel delivered to a buyer under a vessel sale agreement); 75 confirmed orders currently under construction (of which 12 have been resold, including 1 vessel delivered to a buyer under a vessel sale agreement); and 16 options, intended to capture future strategic growth opportunities driven by market demand.

It is understood that Yangzijiang Maritime was spun off from Yangzijiang Financial Holdings Co., Ltd., another listed company under Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, and will be listed in November 2025. Ren Yuanlin serves as executive chairman and CEO.

Yangzijiang Maritime’s development positioning is a strategic hub connecting shipyards, shipowners, charterers and capital markets, and it is a one-stop maritime financial solution service provider. The company’s main business is divided into three major segments: maritime business, cash management and other non-maritime investment businesses.

Yangzijiang Maritime’s business model is built on two pillars: identifying high-potential maritime investment opportunities—including the acquisition of maritime assets at favorable prices—and unlocking value through flexible asset monetization strategies, such as vessel resales, chartering income, and capital management.

Ren Yuanlin, Executive Chairman and CEO of Yangzijiang Maritime, stated: “One of Yangzijiang Maritime’s unique value propositions lies in our ability to consistently identify attractive maritime investment opportunities, structure and create value through the strategic holding of assets acquired at favorable prices, and realize returns at opportune moments within the maritime cycle.”

Ren Yuanlin emphasized: “Our asset monetization strategy—encompassing both the sale of assets and the reinvestment of capital into new shipbuilding orders—creates a virtuous cycle of value realization. This enables us to pursue further growth opportunities and generate greater long-term value for our shareholders.”
