Jiangnan Shipyard Marks Milestone with Naming of First 50,000 m³ Medium-Sized LPG/Liquid Ammonia Carrier

On October 21, Jiangnan Shipyard held a naming ceremony for the “ASP ELENA,” the first vessel in a series of 50,000 m³ medium-sized liquefied petroleum gas/liquid ammonia carriers (MGC) being built for Vietnam’s ASP Shipping. The vessel is scheduled for delivery on October 26.

Adhering to the principles of “energy efficiency, environmental protection, and intelligence,” this vessel is a medium-sized, fully refrigerated liquefied gas carrier (Panda 50P) independently developed by Jiangnan Shipyard. As an upgraded version of the 40,000 m³ MGC, this vessel not only increases cargo capacity by 10,000 m³ but also achieves further improvements in speed performance and energy consumption metrics through hull form development and optimization of the general arrangement, thereby enhancing its market competitiveness.

Based on the Integrated Product Development (IPD) philosophy, Jiangnan’s R&D team has prepared solutions in areas such as ammonia fuel, onboard carbon capture and storage (OCCS), and Jiangnan smart ships (JNIS), laying the foundation for shipowners to select and apply diverse technologies on future vessels.

As the first vessel in the new series, “ASP ELENA” is nearly half the size of its parent class, such as the 93,000 m³ VLAC, which presented numerous new challenges during construction. Jiangnan Shipyard planned proactively and acted swiftly, achieving breakthroughs at every stage of construction.

Jiangnan Shipyard stated that it will use the successful delivery of the “ASP ELENA” as a new starting point to systematically summarize the technical breakthroughs and management experience gained during the dry dock and quay phases, establish replicable construction standards, and lay the foundation for the efficient construction of subsequent vessels in the series.
