On September 9, Zhoushan Changhong International held a naming ceremony for the fifth of a series of 10,300-TEU LNG-dual-fuel container ships it is building for Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). The vessel was named “MSC LETICIA X.” The handover documents were signed on September 10, 324 days ahead of the contractual delivery date.
The “MSC LETICIA X” was jointly designed by Changhong International and CIMC ORIC (CIMC Offshore Research Institute), in line with the global shipping industry’s trend toward green and low-carbon transformation, and offers significant advantages in terms of environmental performance and operational efficiency. The vessel has a total length of 299.95 meters, a beam of 45.6 meters, a draft of 25.0 meters, a structural draft of 17.4 meters, and a design speed of 20 knots. It is classified by Lloyd’s Register (LR).
The first vessel in the series, “MSC Maria Renata”, was delivered on May 25, 2026, 159 days ahead of schedule. The second vessel, “MSC Maria Laura”, was delivered on June 8, 206 days early. The third vessel, “MSC Maria Marilyn X”, was delivered on July 30, 274 days early. The fourth vessel, “MSC Stella M X”, was delivered on August 3, 301 days early. The fifth vessel, “MSC Leticia X”, was delivered on September 10, 324 days early.
As previously reported, Zhoushan Changhong International and MSC signed a contract in 2023 for the construction of 10 LNG-powered container ships with a capacity of 10,300 TEUs each. The total contract value is approximately $1.3 billion, and the vessels are expected to be delivered in stages by 2027.
