Antipollution, an environmental protection company under V Group, has signed a letter of intent with the Greek shipbuilding company ONEX Shipyards & Technologies Group (ONEX) for the construction of 4+4 oil spill recovery vessels (OSRV), marking a significant step forward for the Greek shipbuilding industry.
Classified by the American Bureau of Shipping, these new vessels will collect liquid and solid waste from merchant ships calling at port and transport it to Antipollution’s onshore treatment facilities. There, the waste is processed into solid fuel, supporting a more circular economy-oriented approach to marine waste management.

The American Bureau of Shipping stated: “This batch of new vessels not only meets the practical operational needs of Greek ports but also demonstrates that environmental performance upgrades and the development of the domestic shipbuilding industry can be enhanced in tandem.”
ONEX stated: “The letter of intent signed with Antipollution is of great significance and marks a breakthrough for the shipyard’s newbuilding business.”
ONEX is a leading Greek shipbuilding company that operates two shipyards in Syros and Elefsina and owns its own port facilities. As a member of the Hellenic Ports Association (E.LIM.E.), ONEX plans to establish a comprehensive industrial hub in the Eastern Mediterranean region that integrates shipbuilding, port operations, energy, and logistics.
ONEX took over the Elefsina shipyard in 2019 with plans to develop it into one of Greece’s largest shipyards and restart shipbuilding operations. In December 2025, the shipyard secured an order for 2+2 new multi-purpose tugboats—the first commercial shipbuilding order Greece has received in decades.
