After a decade-long interval, Jiangnan Shipyard welcomes its second 1,600-ton gantry crane!
On August 7, Jiangnan Shipyard held the delivery ceremony for the 1,600-ton gantry crane—part of the project to upgrade the lifting capacity of its No. 3 Dry Dock—marking the successful completion of the delivery campaign five days ahead of schedule. The construction contract for the crane was signed with Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery (ZPMC) on October 16, 2025; the project officially commenced on December 6 of the same year; and final delivery took place on August 7, 2026. The entire process, from contract signing to delivery, spanned just 295 days.
On October 16, 2025, Jiangnan Shipyard signed a contract with ZPMC for the construction of a 1,600-ton gantry crane as part of a project to upgrade the lifting capacity of Dry Dock No. 3; the project officially commenced on December 6 of the same year, and the equipment was formally delivered on August 7, 2026. The entire process, from contract signing to delivery, took just 295 days.

According to earlier reports, this gantry crane features a rail span exceeding 200 meters and a clearance height of over 90 meters beneath the girder; it utilizes a single-girder design characterized by precision engineering and robust load-bearing capacity. The equipment comprises a steel gantry structure (including the main girder), two 450-ton upper trolleys operating on the same track, a 500-ton lower trolley, a travel mechanism, a comprehensive electrical control system, and various auxiliary functional systems. With its rational structural layout and stable, reliable operation, the crane is capable of meeting the demands for high-precision, heavy-tonnage lifting of large-scale components.
According to previous reports, this type of gantry crane has a track gauge exceeding 200 meters, a clearance height under the girder of over 90 meters, and features a single-main-girder structural design, with an overall precise structure and strong load-bearing capacity. The equipment mainly consists of the main girder gantry steel structure, two 450-ton upper trolleys arranged on the same track, one 500-ton lower trolley, the crane traveling mechanism, a complete electrical control system, and various supporting functional systems. It has a rational structural layout, stable and reliable operation, and can meet the requirements for high-precision, large-tonnage hoisting operations of large and heavy components.
Jiangnan Shipyard stated that the newly delivered 1,600-ton gantry crane is equipped with systems for crane operation and maintenance monitoring, wire rope inspection, and crane fleet collision avoidance. These features will further boost production efficiency in the shipyard’s No. 3 dock area, laying a solid hardware foundation for the company to achieve a production capacity of eight batches—spanning two docks and four lines—for commercial vessels during the “15th Five-Year Plan” period, thereby cementing its status as a world-class, advanced shipbuilder.
