Greek dry bulk shipowner Seanergy Maritime has announced an agreement to acquire two Capesize bulk carriers built at Japanese shipyards for approximately $130 million, expanding its fleet renewal program to eight vessels with a total value of $591 million.

The latest transaction comprises a 181,000 DWT bulk carrier equipped with a scrubber, scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2029, and a 182,162 DWT bulk carrier built in 2022, acquired on a forward-delivery basis and expected to join the fleet between late 2028 and the second quarter of 2029. Details regarding the sellers and shipyards were not disclosed.
This latest acquisition marks the most recent step in Seanergy Maritime’s fleet renewal program; the shipowner had previously announced orders for six large bulk carriers with a total value of approximately $460 million—comprising three Capesize vessels from Hengli Heavy Industry, one Newcastlemax vessel from Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS), and two Capesize vessels from Imabari Shipbuilding—all scheduled for delivery by the second quarter of 2028.
According to information released by the shipowner, long-term charter contracts have been signed for all three new vessels scheduled for delivery by Hengli Heavy Industries in 2027: two vessels (to be named “Primeship” and “Chrysship”) have been chartered to a European operator for five years, with three options to extend the term by periods ranging from 10 to 14 months; the third vessel has been chartered to a mining company for four years, with two options to extend the term by periods ranging from 11 to 13 months.
Updates regarding the remainder of Seanergy Maritime’s fleet include the following: the “Kaizenship” has been chartered to Oldendorff for a period of 18 to 28 months commencing in August 2026; the “Blueship” has been chartered to NYK for a period of 14 to 17 months starting in November 2026; and existing charterers have extended the charter for the “Fellowship” through early 2028 and the charter for the “Friendship” by an additional six months.
Driven by the conclusion of multiple charter agreements, Seanergy Maritime achieved a record-high net profit of $26.2 million for the second quarter of 2026, marking a significant increase from the $2.9 million recorded in the same period of the previous year.
