On June 18, CSSC (Tianjin) Shipbuilding issued a “Tender Announcement for the Procurement of a 2,000-Ton Gantry Crane.” According to the announcement, the crane has a maximum lifting capacity of 2,000 tons and a maximum tilting capacity of 1,000 tons. It will be installed in CSSC (Tianjin) Shipbuilding’s No. 2 dry dock and is scheduled to be delivered and put into service by the end of May 2027.

It is understood that CSSC (Tianjin) Shipbuilding has launched the extension project for No. 2 Dry Dock, where the giant gantry crane is located, to extend the dock 180 meters to the south. The extended section measures 180 meters in length, 80 meters in width, and 13.3 meters in depth. CSSC Ninth Design & Research Institute (CSSC NDRI) was awarded the EPC contract for the No. 2 dry dock extension project, with a contract value of 256 million yuan.
CSSC (Tianjin) Shipbuilding, formerly known as Tianjin Xingang Shipyard, was established through a restructuring in 2021 and completed its rebranding in 2025. It is currently a subsidiary of Dalian Shipbuilding Industry co.,ltd.(DSIC), which is part of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC).
CSSC (Tianjin) Shipbuilding is located in the Lingang Economic Zone of Tianjin’s Binhai New Area and covers an area of 3.65 million square meters. The facility features two 300,000 ton shipbuilding docks equipped with four 800 ton gantry cranes. It is the largest single-site final assembly and construction base for large civilian vessels in North China and is currently primarily responsible for the final assembly and construction of large container ships, oil tankers, and bulk carriers.
It is worth noting that the 2,000 ton gantry crane at CSSC (Tianjin) Shipbuilding will be the second giant gantry crane with a capacity of over 2,000 tons that CSSC has begun construction on this year.
In March of this year, CSSC NDRI announced that it had been awarded the EPC contract for a 2,200 ton gantry crane at CSSC Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding. The gantry crane will be installed in Dry Dock No. 2 at Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and is expected to enter service in 2027. This is the gantry crane with the highest lifting capacity ever built by CSSC; previously, the largest gantry crane put into service by CSSC was the 1,600 ton gantry crane at Jiangnan Shipyard.
