On June 5, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding started construction on the third 13,600 TEU container ship (H1949A) being built for COSCO Shipping.
In October 2024, COSCO Shipping ordered six 13,600 TEU conventional fuel-powered large container ships from Hudong-Zhonghua. The first ship in the series ((H1947A) was kicked off construction in November 2025, and the second ship (H1948A) will start construction in March 2026. All six new ships are expected to be completed and delivered within 2027.
It is understood that the 13,600 TEU large container ship is another green and environmentally friendly container ship independently developed and designed by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding. It is approximately 336 meters long, 51 meters wide, and 30.2 meters deep, with a maximum container capacity of 14,096 T.&U and 2, 000 refrigerated container berths. It is classed by the China Classification Society (CCS). This type of ship is equipped with a high-efficiency main engine,energy-saving devices, shaft-driven generators, a high-voltage shore power system, ultra- low resistance anti-fouling paint, and desulfucization equipment, meeting the latest international environmental regulations and adaptable to future green fuel conversion needs.
