COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) Holds Naming Ceremony for Eighth 154,000 DWT Shuttle Tanker for KNOT

On April 14, COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) held a naming ceremony for the eighth 154,000 DWT shuttle tanker being built for the Norwegian company KNOT. The vessel was officially named “JANEIRO KNUTSEN,” marking another significant milestone for COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) in the field of shuttle tanker batch construction.

The “JANEIRO KNUTSEN” is the eighth shuttle tanker built by COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) for KNOT. It has an overall length of 278.9 meters, a beam of 47 meters, a draft of 24.9 meters, and a designed draft of 16 meters. The vessel is classed by DNV.

The vessel was designed and constructed with a comprehensive commitment to green and low-carbon principles. It is equipped with a DP2 dynamic positioning system and a bow loading system, and its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) meets the highest standards of Phase 3. Through the adoption of advanced technologies such as medium-voltage closed-loop busbars and variable-frequency drive propulsion systems, energy consumption and emissions have been effectively reduced, achieving the goals of energy conservation and environmental protection.

Building on their long-standing friendly cooperative relationship, on March 9, 2026, KNOT announced the delivery of a 154,000 DWT shuttle tanker to COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Zhoushan), bringing the total number of shuttle tankers jointly built by the two companies to 14.
