On March 26, China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Group Weihai Shipyard held a ceremony to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its partnership with STENA Line and to mark the delivery of the 13th high-end ro-pax vessel, W0283.

The vessel has an overall length of 239.7 meters, a beam of 27.8 meters, a designed draft of 6.15 meters, and a speed of 24 knots. It can accommodate 1,500 passengers and 254 crew members, and is equipped with four generators, three bow thrusters, methanol, and high-capacity battery packs.
Furthermore, the vessel incorporates a conventional fuel (HFO/MGO) propulsion system. When combined with battery propulsion and shore power systems, this setup enables electric propulsion. The top deck is equipped with a 540-square-meter solar photovoltaic system, the main engines are fitted with a hybrid desulfurization system, and the generators include space reserved for SCR installation. These features effectively reduce emissions of carbon dioxide, sulfur oxides, and nitrogen oxides, meeting Europe’s stringent environmental standards while fully addressing the core requirements of next-generation high-end ro-ro passenger ships, such as economic efficiency and safety.

Since the initial contract for the first four E-Flexer vessels was signed in 2016, STENA has ordered a total of 15 high-end ro-pax vessels from Weihai Shipyard. With the exception of two vessels currently under construction, all others have been completed and delivered. Over the past decade, Weihai Shipyard has delivered a total of 12 high-end ro-pax vessels, two ro-ro vessels, and two vessel conversions to STENA.
