CSSC NDRI Secures Contract for CSSC’s Largest Gantry Crane (2200T×155m) at Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding

According to WeChat official account news from CSSC Ninth Design & Research Institute (CSSC NDRI), the institute recently won the bid for the EPC project of a 2200T×155m gantry crane at Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding. As previously announced in the bid award notice, the contract value for this project is 169.9 million yuan (approximately US$25 million).

It is worth noting that this 2200T×155m gantry crane is the largest gantry crane construction project in the history of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). Previously, the largest gantry crane put into operation by CSSC was the 1600T gantry crane at Jiangnan Shipyard.

This gantry crane will be installed at Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding’s No. 2 dry dock. According to CSSC NDRI, the crane’s segment lifting capacity set a CSSC record at 2,200 tons, with a maximum block aerial turnover weight of 1,100 tons. To precisely align with Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding’s production schedule, the crane’s total construction cycle has been optimized to 330 days.

In March 2025, CSSC NDRI has delivered one 11000T×185m gantry crane to Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding. The construction contract was signed on May 9, 2024.

The previously delivered 11000T×185m gantry crane has been installed at Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding’s No. 1 Dry Dock. After the project was put into use, it effectively relieved the load pressure on the existing equipment, improved the dock’s internal and external coordination of unloading and hoisting capacity, providing a solid guarantee for the continuous batch construction of the shipyard’s advantageous products and medium and large container ships.
