CIMC SOE Wins Order for up to Eight 1,800 TEU Boxships for Danaos

Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co.,Ltd.(CIMC SOE) announced that it has recently secured a contract to build 6+2 1,800 TEU container ships, marking another significant market recognition in the container ship construction sector.

This order includes six confirmed vessels and two optional vessels. The first vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2027, with subsequent vessels to be delivered quarterly until all optional vessels are completed by September 2029, which provides stable order support for the company’s sustained production.

The buyer for this project is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Danaos Corporation, one of the world’s largest independent container ship owners. Headquartered in Athens, Greece, Danaos is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and operates one of the world’s largest container fleets. These 1,800 TEU container ships have secured long-term charter agreements with a major liner company, with four vessels already secured under 10-year charters.

Danaos previously disclosed these six new vessels in its Q3 2025 earnings report. According to the announcement, Danaos placed orders in November with an undisclosed shipyard for six 1,800 TEU feeder container ships, scheduled for delivery between 2027 and 2029. Four of these vessels have secured 10-year charter agreements, increasing Danaos’ contract revenue backlog by approximately $236 million.
