Shipbroker Xclusiv Shipbrokers reports that Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, has signed a contract with South Korea’s Namsung Shipping for 2+2 7,100-TEU container ships. The new vessels are expected to be delivered in stages between 2030 and 2031.

It is worth noting that this marks the first collaboration between DSIC and Namsung Shipping, and represents the second order placed by Namsung Shipping with a Chinese shipbuilder. In March of this year, Namsung Shipping signed a contract with CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding for the construction of two 4,300 TEU container ships—the first time the shipowner had chosen a Chinese shipyard.
Including the latest orders, DSIC has secured contracts for 58+6 new vessels so far this year, comprising 18+2 VLCCs, 20+4 114,000 DWT product tankers, one 115,000 DWT oil tanker, two LR2 product tankers, three shuttle tankers, two 210,000 DWT bulk carriers, and 12 9,200 TEU container ships.
As a major shipbuilding enterprise under the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), DSIC has established an overall operational layout consisting of “one headquarters and three bases.” Its headquarters, located in Dalian, serves as the center for research and development, marketing, and management. The three bases—Dalian, Tianjin, and Shanhaiguan—collectively span an area of approximately 12 million square meters and feature 19 dry docks, 8 slipways, and 18.4 kilometers of outfitting quays.
