On November 19, Jiangsu Dajin Heavy Industry, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bestway Marine & Energy Technology, formally delivered “Zhanjiang Bay No. 1” — the world’s first floating dynamically positioned aquaculture vessel — to Zhanjiang Bay Laboratory.

As the world’s first aquaculture platform integrating a workboat with cage systems, the Zhanjiang Bay No. 1 pioneers a new paradigm of intensive, intelligent, and green aquaculture through five major innovations.
Measuring 154 meters in length and 44 meters in width, the platform holds 80,000 cubic meters of aquaculture water and can produce 2,000 tons of premium fish species such as grouper and tuna annually, enabling simultaneous cultivation of multiple species.
The vessel features significant core innovations:
- Innovation in expanding aquaculture space: Breaking through water depth limitations, enabling flexible site selection for aquaculture across the entire sea area, breaking the constraints of nearshore space, and unleashing the potential of deep-sea aquaculture.
- Safety protection technology innovation: Equipped with a dynamic positioning and autonomous navigation system, it constructs an active disaster avoidance system, which can intelligently avoid disasters such as typhoons, completely changing the traditional passive risk resistance situation of aquaculture.
- Innovation in scale and efficiency: Create an 80,000-cubic-meter intensive breeding space with 12 independent breeding areas and an annual production capacity of 2,000 tons; combine with intelligent management and control throughout the entire process to achieve precise breeding, reduce costs, improve efficiency and quality.
- Innovation in industrial operation model: The vessel constructs a tiered aquaculture layout and scientifically plans marine resources; relying on a three-dimensional communication network of air, land, sea and air, it builds an integrated shore-sea smart IoT platform to promote the modernization and transformation of the industry.
- Green and ecological development innovation: Low-carbon operation driven by clean energy of wind and solar power consisting of photovoltaic panels and vertical axis wind turbines, combined with HPDE fully transparent mesh system to achieve efficient seawater exchange; away from nearshore pollution areas, natural purification reduces diseases, achieving a win-win situation for ecology and economy.
The development of “Zhanjiang Bay No. 1” is not only the world’s first deep-water heavy equipment for all-sea aquaculture, but also a concentrated reflection of China’s independent innovation capabilities in the fields of marine fishery resource development, ecological environmental protection, and high-end equipment manufacturing. Its design embodies China’s most cutting-edge marine engineering concepts, integrates intelligent and green cutting-edge technologies, and has achieved a leap from following to leading in many core technologies.
