On October 16, China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Jiangnan Shipyard kicked off construction of the first 48,500 cbm medium ethane/ethylene carrier (MEC) for Navigator Gas.
This vessel is the first medium-sized ethane and ethylene carrier independently developed by Jiangnan Shipyard. Three sister vessels will be built in succession, equipped with the company’s independently developed “BrilliancE®” Type B tank (IMO Type B Tank).
This technology, a world-leading, safe and reliable cryogenic cargo containment system, has been successfully implemented in the very large ethane carriers (VLECs) being mass-produced by Jiangnan Shipyard. The expansion of this technology to medium-sized ethane and ethylene carriers further expands the “BrilliancE®” portfolio.
This vessel has a cargo hold capacity of 48,500 cubic meters and is equipped with three Type B liquid cargo tanks. It is designed to flexibly carry a variety of liquefied gas cargoes, including ethane, ethylene, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and ammonia.
The commencement of construction marks another solid step forward for Jiangnan Shipyard and Navigator Gas in their journey towards a greener future. The two parties will deepen their close collaboration, continuously refining industry standards through concrete actions, and jointly shape a new global shipping landscape that is more environmentally friendly and efficient.
