On September 26, Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group (“WS”), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), and China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (“CSTC”) jointly delivered the first 25,900 DWT stainless steel chemical tanker – custom-built for Xingtong Shipping – and officially named the vessel “XT Sea Lion”. The successful delivery of this tanker marks a new milestone in China’s capabilities in the design and construction of high-end chemical tankers.
The XT Sea Lion is the first methanol dual-fuel chemical tanker of its size in China and the largest chemical tanker WS has built on the Yangtze River to date. It is a truly high-end chemical tanker that combines efficiency, intelligence, and environmental protection, achieving world-leading performance.
The vessel combines the advantages of green and low-carbon development, high-end intelligence, and global service. Equipped with 22 independent cargo holds made of 2205 duplex stainless steel, it offers excellent cargo adaptability and loading flexibility to meet diverse chemical transportation needs. Compared with similar vessels, the vessel boasts significant advantages in fuel economy, loading capacity and tank utilization.
The vessel is equipped with an advanced intelligent ship management system, integrating four core functions: intelligent navigation, intelligent engine room, intelligent energy efficiency, and intelligent information integration. The system can collect ship navigation status onboard, equipment operating parameters and key system energy consumption data in real time, realize integrated processing of ship information, and implement intelligent decision-making and precise control based on big data analysis, significantly improving the intelligent operation level.
The successful delivery of the “XT Sea Lion” will not only effectively promote the upgrade of the second-generation chemical tankers, but will also further consolidate WS’s market position in international and domestic small and medium-sized chemical tankers.
Currently, WS holds an order book of over 30 vessels, including 25,900 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers and 18,500 DWT product/chemical tankers, which are being constructed in an orderly manner under a new batch-production shipbuilding model.
Upon delivery, the “XT Sea Lion” will be managed by Sino-British Ship Management, the world’s largest ship management company. Leveraging its global network and professional service system, the vessel will significantly enhance the shipowner’s transportation capabilities in the chemical market and provide high-quality, high-value shipping services to customers.
