New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding to Build Dual LNG-Powered Container Vessels for Hunan Huahang Shipping

On September 26, Chinese shipbuilder New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry and Hunan Huahang Shipping signed a contract for two LNG river-sea direct container vessels. The vessels are an 854-TEU (LNG micro-injection ignition) inland river container vessel and a 476-TEU (LNG micro-injection ignition) river-sea direct container vessel.

In terms of vessel design, both vessels take “efficiency, environmental protection, and safety” as their core goals and are precisely optimized to meet the needs of different navigation areas.

Among these, the 854 TEU inland river container vessel is an open-top container carrier designed for navigation in Class A and B inland waterway zones. It employs LNG engines (diesel micro-injection ignition) for propulsion and features one diesel engine side thruster at the bow.

The vessel’s main engine has a rated power of 1470 kW x 2 and a rated speed of 800 rpm. At a designed draft of 6.1 m and a main engine rated at 1470 kW, the vessel’s sea trial speed is ≥ 20 km/h in calm deep waters with winds no greater than Beaufort 3.

Another 476 TEU river-sea direct container vessel is a dedicated open-top container carrier operating on the Yueyang, Hunan to Shanghai Yangshan Port route, within designated navigation zones 1-1 and 1-2. The vessel utilizes LNG engines (diesel micro-injection ignition) for propulsion.

The main engine of this vessel is rated at 1100kW x 2 and rated at 1000r/min. With a design draft of 5.25m and a main engine rated at 1100kW, the trial sea speed is ≥ 11.5 knots in calm deep waters with winds no greater than Beaufort 3.
