DSIC Advances Green Shipbuilding with Triple Milestone: VLCC, LR2 Tanker and LNG Carrier Projects

On May 8, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC) under China State Shipbuilding Corporation achieved the keel-laying milestone for the world’s first methanol dual-fuel powered intelligent Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) being built for China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES).

The vessel is the eighth generation VLCC type independently developed by DSIC and classed by CCS, with an overall length of about 333 meters, a beam of 60 meters and a cargo capacity of about 2.1 million barrels of crude oil. With the latest design, the vessel has the same cargo carrying capacity as its predecessor while lowering the vessel’s draft, showing more excellent comprehensive performance.

Meanwhile, the vessel adopts methanol dual-fuel main engine, equipped with main engine EGR, generator SCR nitrogen removal equipment and open type desulfurization scrubber tower equipment, which fully meets the latest environmental protection emission standards and maximizes energy efficiency and economy. In addition, it is equipped with intelligent equipment such as intelligent energy efficiency, intelligent liquid cargo, intelligent operation and maintenance, and intelligent ship-based platform, which further improves the vessel’s operation efficiency and operation safety.

On the same day, DSIC kicked off the construction of a 115,000 DWT product tanker for Vietnam’s ASIA PACIFIC SHIPPING COMPANY LIMITED.

The vessel is an optimized and upgraded LR2 tanker independently developed by DSIC, with an overall length of about 250 meters, a beam of 44 meters and a deadweight of about 115,000 tons. The vessel is equipped with open desulphurization scrubber tower, main engine and generator adopt SCR system, NOx meets NOx TIER III emission standard, and its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) reaches Phase III. In terms of overall performance, environmental performance and reliability, the vessel has reached the world’s advanced level and has strong market competitiveness.

On May 6, DSIC cut steel for a 175,000 cubic meters LNG carrier for COSCO Shipping LNG Investment (Shanghai) and SINOPEC Kantons Holdings Limited (Kantons Holdings).
