CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Breaks Ground on Longxue North Zone Project, Advancing Digital and Intelligent Shipbuilding Transformation

On October 23, the North Zone construction project of Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), officially commenced at the Longxue Shipbuilding Base in Nansha District, Guangzhou.

The project will expand the gross floor area by approximately 300,000 square meters and establish a specialized, intelligent, and intensive modern shipbuilding production line for Huangpu Wenchong. Construction will proceed in accordance with the principle of “coordinated planning and phased implementation.” It will comprehensively upgrade the shipyard’s full-chain system of production, office, and supporting facilities, addressing existing shortcomings in core capabilities. As a flagship project for CSSC Huangpu Wenchong to enhance the quality and efficiency of its core shipbuilding business and advance its digital and intelligent transformation, it will inject strong momentum into the company’s pursuit of high-quality development.

Xing Hua noted that Huangpu Wenchong is the birthplace of China’s modern shipbuilding industry, a key national defense contractor, and the leading backbone of Guangzhou’s Nansha shipbuilding and offshore engineering industry. The Longxue North Construction Project, which has now broken ground, will be developed into a comprehensive industrial base integrating the construction and support of special-purpose vessels with the R&D and manufacturing of high-end marine equipment. It will effectively enhance overall shipbuilding efficiency. This initiative not only represents a strategic move by the company to secure a leading position in the digital and intelligent transformation but will also inject strong momentum into the upgrading of Guangzhou Nansha’s shipbuilding and offshore engineering industry and the cultivation of new-quality productive forces.

Guided by CSSC’s vision of “building a world-class shipbuilding group,” Huangpu Wenchong is aligning with the development plans of the national government, Guangdong Province, and the group. The company has acquired new land in the Longxue North Zone to fill capacity gaps in advance, optimize the plant’s production line layout, reduce production and operating costs, and further increase the turnover rate of core resources such as dry docks and slipways, with the goal of building the CSSC South China Longxue Shipbuilding Base into a benchmark for China’s shipbuilding and marine industry.

In addition to the shipyard construction project recently launched in Huangpu Wenchong, Guangzhou’s first locally-based shipbuilding enterprise—the newly established state-owned enterprise Guangzhou Marine Equipment Group Co., Ltd.—was officially inaugurated on October 19. The group has entered into partnerships with relevant entities under CSSC, including Guangzhou Shipyard International and Huangpu Wenchong, and will deepen collaboration in areas such as the research, development, and manufacturing of marine equipment, as well as the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements.

According to the plan, Guangzhou Marine Equipment Group will build on Guangzhou’s marine industry foundation, taking the strengthening of advanced marine manufacturing as its foundation and the enhancement of modern marine services as its wing for advancement, focusing on three major manufacturing segments: marine power, offshore engineering equipment, and offshore new energy equipment. At the same time, it will develop service formats such as green power operation and maintenance/retrofitting, industrial park operation, financial leasing, and inspection, testing, and certification, building a service system covering the entire life cycle of marine equipment, and striving to become a leading marine equipment enterprise with significant domestic influence by the end of the 15th Five-Year Plan period.

Ships and offshore engineering equipment are vital pillars supporting China’s maritime development and efforts to strengthen its maritime capabilities. During the “15th Five-Year Plan” period, Nansha, Guangzhou, will vigorously advance the construction of a world-class seaport and make every effort to build the nation’s second-largest shipbuilding base and a world-class industrial cluster for ships and offshore engineering equipment, with the goal of exceeding 100 billion yuan in output value by 2030.
