SC Shipping Takes Delivery of Third 25,900 DWT Stainless-Steel Chemical Tanker “SC HESSONITE” from Wuchang Shipbuilding

On September 10, SC Shipping and Wuchang Shipbuilding held a naming and delivery ceremony in Jingjiang, Jiangsu, for the third 25,900 DWT stainless-steel chemical tanker. The vessel was named the “SC HESSONITE.”

The “SC HESSONITE” is the third vessel in a series of 25,900 DWT stainless-steel chemical tankers being built in batches by Wuchang Shipbuilding for SC Shipping. The first vessel in the series, the “SC DIAMOND”, was delivered on January 28, 2026, and the second vessel, the “SC EPIDOTE”, was delivered on June 30.

Designed primarily by Shanghai Odely Marine Engineering Co., Ltd., this vessel type has become a “viral sensation” in China’s chemical shipping market, combining environmental friendliness, smart technology, and high efficiency.

The vessel is designed with provisions for a methanol fuel upgrade, meets Phase 3 EEDI requirements, and complies with IMO Tier III emission standards, making it perfectly aligned with the global trend toward low-carbon shipping.

The vessel integrates intelligent energy efficiency management, smart navigation, engine room and cargo oil monitoring, and behavior recognition systems, using big data to optimize navigation and energy consumption performance in real time. Additionally, the vessel is equipped with 22 single-tank, single-pipe cargo holds, with a total cargo capacity of 29,500 cubic meters, capable of simultaneously transporting more than 20 types of high-end chemicals, greatly enhancing operational flexibility and economic value.

To date, SC Shipping operates nearly 90 chemical tankers ranging from 3,000 to 40,000 deadweight tons (including those under construction) and holds a leading position in the global transportation of fine liquid chemicals, such as PMDI, TDI, HMD, and PO.
