On July 23, a new-generation multipurpose offshore engineering vessel, funded by China Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. (COOEC), completed a full range of sea trials, with all performance metrics meeting the required standards. The vessel’s commissioning will further enhance China’s self-reliance in marine engineering equipment and provide critical equipment support for accelerating the development of deep-sea energy resources.

According to COOEC, the sea trials primarily focused on core tests including the vessel’s navigational performance, the all-electric propulsion system, DP2 closed-loop dynamic positioning, FMEA fault tolerance, overall ship comfort, underwater loading of lifting equipment, communications and navigation, and HiPAP underwater beacon locking. A vast amount of real-world data was comprehensively collected, and all test results exceeded the requirements of the design specifications.
This multi-purpose offshore engineering vessel has an overall length of 126 meters and a beam of 28 meters, with a deck area of approximately 2,000 square meters. It is capable of operating at a maximum water depth of 300 meters and can operate autonomously in any navigation area. It is a brand-new, independently developed, multi-purpose integrated operations platform designed for marine resource development.
The vessel combines four key advantages—deep-diving capabilities, full-range deep-sea navigation, integrated operations under multiple working conditions, and green, energy-efficient, and stable performance—into a single platform, breaking through the technological barriers of foreign high-end offshore engineering vessels. The reliability and stability of the vessel’s hull, electromechanical systems, lifting equipment, and underwater operations systems were comprehensively validated under real-world conditions during these sea trials conducted in harsh sea conditions.
It is reported that, following its delivery, the vessel will undertake a diverse range of operations, including the repair and retrofitting of offshore platforms, the operation, maintenance, and inspection of oil and gas production facilities, the installation of subsea structures, the laying of subsea pipelines and cables, oilfield maintenance and repair, subsea surveys, and emergency response and rescue operations, providing a one-stop solution that covers the full spectrum of offshore marine engineering construction needs in nearshore waters.
