Imabari Shipbuilding Delivers LNG Dual-Fuel PCTC “PADMA LEADER” to NYK

On October 30, Imabari Shipbuilding’s Tadotsu Shipyard delivered the 7,000 CEU LNG dual-fuel powered PCTC “PADMA LEADER”. The vessel was ordered by Japanese shipowner Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK).

The PADMA LEADER measures 199.93 meters in length, 38.0 meters in width, and 38.76 meters in depth. With a deadweight of 18,505 tons and a gross tonnage of 77,589, it is equipped with a 6S60ME-C10.5-GI main engine, achieving a speed of approximately 18.0 knots. Classed by Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (NK), the vessel flies the Japanese flag.

According to Imabari Shipbuilding, compared to conventional heavy fuel oil-powered PCTCs, the PADMA LEADER reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 25-30%, produces virtually no sulfur oxide emissions, and cuts nitrogen oxide emissions by 80-90% through its exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system.

Since the LNG fuel tanks on this vessel continuously produce boil-off gas (BOG), the generated vapor can be utilized to power generators and boilers, thereby enhancing environmental friendly.

Additionally, the vessel features a bulkhead-free design with widened ramps arranged in a straight line, simplifying vehicle access routes while enhancing safety and loading/unloading efficiency. Its vertically adjustable deck height accommodates not only passenger cars but also trucks, trailers, and other large freight vehicles.
