HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Secures $292 Million Order for Two Container Vessels from Asian Owner

On September 8, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the intermediate holding company for HD Hyundai Group’s shipbuilding business, announced that it had signed a contract with an Asian shipping company to build two container vessels. The total order value is 409.5 billion won (about US$292 million), and the total price of each vessel is about US$146 million.

The new vessels will be constructed by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and are scheduled for delivery in batches by the first half of 2028.

This marks the second new order announced by HD KSOE within days. On September 4, it was announced that HD Hyundai Samho secured an order from Greece’s Evalend Shipping for two 157,000 DWT Suezmax tankers.

Including the latest orders, HD KSOE has secured orders for 86 new vessels worth $11.75 billion this year, achieving approximately 65.1% of its annual order target of $18.05 billion.

By vessel type, this includes 5 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, 6 LNG bunkering vessels, 8 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)/ammonia carriers, 2 ethane carriers, 52 container ships and 13 oil tankers.
