Subsequent to the naming ceremony held on August 17, Jiangnan Shipyard — a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) — and China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC) jointly signed the delivery contract for the “AL REEF”, the third large Mark III Flex membrane LNG carrier, with ADNOC Logistics & Services (ADNOC L&S), a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). Notably, the vessel was handed over to its owner nearly three months ahead of the contracted delivery schedule.

This vessel is the first generation of 175,000 cubic meter MARK III Flex membrane LNG carrier (“LNG JUMBO”) independently developed by Jiangnan Shipyard in accordance with the latest international LNG ship design concept. It meets the latest current regulations and has the characteristics of being mainstream, reliable, energy-saving and environmentally friendly. The comprehensive economic performance indicators have reached the international advanced level.
It is understood that the first vessel of this series, “AL SHELILA”, has successfully completed five voyages of loading and unloading operations since its delivery in November last year; the second vessel, “AL RAHBA”, was delivered in May this year and has successfully completed three voyages of loading and unloading operations.
As the third vessel in the series, the AL REEF meets or exceeds design requirements in all aspects (speed, energy consumption, cargo system performance, environmental protection indicators, etc.) and has been unanimously recognized and praised by ship owners, ship inspectors, and other parties. Its containment system performance exceeds international standards.
On the same day, Jiangnan Shipyard also officially broke ground on the third vessel (H2745) in a series of 93,000 cubic meter very large ammonia carriers (VLACs) being built for Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS).
The 93,000 cubic meter VLAC is a derivative of the fourth-generation premium VLGC (Panda 93A) independently developed and designed by Jiangnan Shipyard. This type of vessel is currently the world’s largest liquid ammonia carrier and is classed by Lloyd’s Register.
During the design process, the liquid tank design was specially strengthened taking into account the higher density of anhydrous liquid ammonia than conventional liquefied petroleum gas. At the same time, a new generation of low-resistance lines developed completely independently were adopted, so that it can have excellent and balanced performance under full load, ballast and liquid cargo loading conditions of different specific gravities.
