APM Terminals, a subsidiary of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Government of Andhra Pradesh through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB). The agreement aims to accelerate the development of modern port and terminal infrastructure along the state’s 1,053 km coastline, supporting its ambition to become the “Logistics Hub of the East.”
The MoU, signed in the presence of the Honourable Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, underscores the state’s commitment to enhancing its maritime capabilities. Under the vision laid out by the Chief Minister, Andhra Pradesh plans to develop ports, fishing harbors, and fish landing centers at regular intervals of 50 km along its coast. These efforts are designed to boost international trade and empower local communities through improved connectivity and economic opportunities.
Currently, Andhra Pradesh has five operational non-major ports and four greenfield ports expected to be operational by 2026. The collaboration with APM Terminals is set to bring global expertise and significant investment to the state’s maritime sector. The company has expressed its intent to invest approximately $1 billion (around ₹85 billion) in developing and modernizing port infrastructure, which is anticipated to create between 8,000 and 10,000 direct and indirect jobs.
APM Terminals brings decades of experience in India, operating key assets such as the Gujarat Pipavav Port and Gateway Terminals India at JNPA Port, Maharashtra. The company is recognized for introducing advanced cargo handling technologies and sustainable operational practices. As part of the MoU, APM Terminals will provide advisory support in port planning, project structuring, and implementation of international standards. Emphasis will also be placed on green port initiatives, including low-emission technologies, energy-efficient systems, and ESG-compliant practices.
A joint Working Committee comprising representatives from APM Terminals and APMB will be established by the third quarter of 2025 to oversee the implementation of the projects outlined in the MoU.
This partnership marks a significant milestone in Andhra Pradesh’s efforts to strengthen its logistics and maritime infrastructure, combining local potential with global expertise to drive economic growth and sustainable development.
