Jiangmen Hangtong Shipbuilding Wins COSL Bid for Two Bohai Sea Icebreaking Oilfield Workboats

Recently, China Oilfield Services Limited (COSL) announced a bidding result: Jiangmen Hangtong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.Of Cccc Fourth Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. successfully won the bid for two icebreaking oilfield workboats, with a bid amount (including value-added tax) of approximately RMB 350 million (approximately US$51 million).

According to the tender announcement, the two icebreaking oilfield workboats to be constructed by Jiangmen Hangtong Shipbuilding are designed to meet icebreaking requirements in the Bohai Sea area, replacing the Binhai 284/285 icebreaking workboats. Both vessels are scheduled for delivery within 710 days after contract signing.

Jiangmen Hangtong Shipbuilding will be responsible for building two new vessels to replace the Binhai 284/285 icebreaking oilfield workboats, including basic design (including water tank testing), detailed design, production design, procurement of all ship equipment and materials, and undertaking all construction work.

Public records indicate that Jiangmen Hangtong Shipbuilding is a wholly-owned subsidiary of CCCC Fourth Harbour Engineering Co., Ltd., which is part of the Fortune Global 500 company China Communications Construction Group. Its primary business scope includes the design, construction, repair, and conversion of various steel vessels and offshore engineering equipment; steel structural component fabrication; ship automation system manufacturing; and the import and export of technology and goods.

Jiangmen Hangtong Shipbuilding’s core products include specialized engineering vessels such as semi-submersible barges, dredgers, and crane vessels; green energy vessels; deep-sea equipment like aquaculture workboats; as well as bulk carriers, tankers, chemical tankers and LPG carriers. The company possesses an annual shipbuilding capacity of 200,000 deadweight tons and an annual ship repair capacity of 300 vessels.
