On October 16, China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) issued an announcement stating that, through a wholly-owned single-vessel subsidiary, it had taken delivery of the “Hanrong,” 7,800 CEU methanol dual-fuel Ro-Ro vessel, in Nantong, Jiangsu Province.

The announcement disclosed that the “Hanrong” is the second of the 7,800 CEU RO-RO vessels in a series of 2+4 methanol-dual-fuel RO-RO vessels ordered by CMES in 2023 from its affiliate, China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd. (CMI).
The vessel is equipped with a methanol dual-fuel main engine and a medium-voltage shore power system, fully complying with the International Maritime Organization’s Tier III emission standards. When powered by green methanol, it can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 70%, meeting the environmental requirements of major global automotive export shipping routes.
CMES stated that the delivery and entry into service of the vessel “Han Rong” marks a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to refine its fleet composition and optimize its capacity within the green RoRo shipping sector. This development will further assist CMES in optimizing its fleet structure, enhancing transport service efficiency, and expanding its client service footprint—ultimately providing more robust green shipping capacity and logistics support for Chinese-branded vehicles to “go global” with a lower carbon footprint.
As of October 16, the CMES Car Carrier segment had a total of 20 RO-RO vessels in operation, including 7 Yangtze River RO-RO vessels, 4 coastal RO-RO vessels, and 9 deep-sea RO-RO vessels. The segment has two vessels on order, both of which are 7,800 CEU capacity methanol-dual-fuel RO-RO vessels scheduled to enter service by the end of 2026.
