On August 8, Wuchuan Shipyard held a steel cutting ceremony for the fourth vessel in a series of 50,000 DWT MR product tankers being built for a UAE shipowner.
The vessel has a total length of 182.75 meters, a beam of 32.2 meters, a draft of 19.1 meters and a design deadweight of 50,000 tons. The cargo hold design is particularly unique, featuring 12 cargo oil tanks and two slop tanks.
It adopts designs such as a raked bow, stern bulkhead with a stern bulb, and a semi-suspended rudder, which effectively enhance the vessel’s sailing performance. In addition, Weihai Wuchuan actively responds to the national “dual-carbon” strategy. The power system consists of a MAN 6S50ME-C9.7-HPSCR engine and a desulfurization tower, with reserved space for carbon capture equipment and methanol tanks, meeting strict environmental protection requirements.

For a long time, Wuchuan Shipyard’s Weihai base has been deeply committed to the “intelligent manufacturing” strategy, striving to promote the transformation and upgrading of the traditional shipbuilding industry towards intelligence, digitization, and green development. With the company’s advanced intelligent facilities and the use of digital and automation technologies to optimize production processes, shipbuilding efficiency has been greatly improved.
The fourth of the 50K series MR tankers has officially entered construction, benefiting from environmentally friendly and carbon-reducing design philosophy. Leveraging its forward-looking strategic planning and the solid technical expertise gained from the first three vessels, the fourth vessel will see a significant reduction in construction time. Wuchuan Shipyard Weihai base is confident of securing a more advantageous position in the future shipbuilding market and contributing more high-quality, “Made in China” vessels to the development of the global shipping industry.
