Xinjiangzhou Shipbuilding Launches First 25,900 DWT Chemical Tanker for Singapore’s MAC Group

On February 14, Xinjiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry held a launching ceremony for the first 25,900 DWT duplex stainless steel chemical tanker built for Singapore’s MAC Group.

The 25,900 DWT duplex stainless steel chemical tanker launched this time is the largest and highest value-added high-end chemical tanker in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River. It is also a landmark project for Xinjiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry to join the ranks of the top chemical tanker construction companies in China, injecting momentum into the upgrading of local industries.

It is understood that in November 2024, Singapore’s MAC Group announced an order for four 25,900 DWT duplex stainless steel chemical tankers from Xinjiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry. The cost per vessel is approximately US$50 million, with delivery expected to begin in 2026.

The aforementioned four chemical tankers represent the first new shipbuilding project for Singapore’s MAC Group and are also the largest high-end stainless steel chemical tanker project undertaken by shipbuilders in Jiangxi Province.

The first vessel launched this time, with construction commencing on October 21, 2024, marks Xinjiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry’s official entry into the high-end chemical tanker construction field.

Classified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), the vessel is 158.98 meters long, 27 meters wide, and has a speed of 14 knots. It is powered by a 5010 kW low-speed diesel engine and uses a fixed-propeller propulsion system, meeting EEDI Phase 3 requirements. The vessel is suitable for transporting IMO Group II and III chemicals and Annex I oil cargoes, with a maximum cargo density of 2.0 t/m³.
