QatarEnergy Names 174,000m³ LNG Carrier “Al Mas’habiyyah” at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding

On July 22, QatarEnergy named a 174,000m³ LNG carrier at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. This vessel marks the 51st LNG carrier constructed by Hudong-Zhonghua, named “Al Mas’habiyyah”. The naming ceremony marks that all parties in the project have formed a virtuous closed loop of mutual trust and mutual assistance in the upstream and downstream industrial chain of LNG “investment-construction-operation-trade”, further enhancing the resilience of China’s LNG industry chain and strengthens its influence within the global LNG sector.

“AL MAS’HABIYYA” is the fifth generation of “Changheng” series LNG carrier, with a total length of 299 meters, a beam of 46.4 meters and a depth of 26.25 meters. It adopts the latest twin-skeg hull design and is equipped with a number of low-carbon and digital technologies and equipment. And it integrates the latest design concepts, the best technical equipment and the strongest environmental performance. Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding provides strong equipment support for the global energy transportation industry. It is classified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and the China Classification Society (CCS).

Following its relocation to Changxing Island, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding has upgraded and expanded its hardware facilities, synchronized the digital transformation of its design, production, management systems, promoted quality improvement and efficiency gains in various projects through lean management, accelerating its progress toward the goal of becoming a world-class marine equipment industry group.

At present, with the accelerated transformation of the global energy landscape, the LNG transportation industry is in a critical development period and opportunity period of “demand growth, technology upgrade, and geopolitical reshaping”. The successful advancement of the Qatar LNG transportation project has promoted the establishment of a long-term and stable partnership between China’s shipbuilding and shipping industries and QatarEnergy, and brought new opportunities for the healthy development of China’s LNG industry chain.
