Minsheng Group Orders Methanol-Ready 1100TEU Container Ships with BOC Leasing from Sumec Marine

On July 22, Minsheng Group, BOC Leasing and Sumec Marine held a signing ceremony for the “New Shipbuilding Contract and Charter Contract for 2+2 1100TEU Container Ships”. This is the first ocean-going ship construction project launched by Minsheng Group in its 100th anniversary, and the group will upgrade and build a modern fleet.

It is understood that the 1100TEU container ship project is of a green intelligent ship, adopting a methanol-ready design that meets the latest EEDI Phase III carbon emission requirements. Through the optimization of twisted rudders and high-efficiency propellers, the ship achieves dual advantages in speed and energy efficiency, putting the national “dual carbon” strategy into practice.

One of the highlights of this three-party cooperation is the adoption of the “long-term operating lease + cross-border RMB payment” model, that is, BOC Leasing provides capital support, Minsheng Group is responsible for ship operation, and SUMEC’s New Dayang Shipyard is responsible for construction. The entire project will adopt the cross-border RMB settlement method, making full use of the policy advantage of the low cost of RMB and effectively resisting the risk of exchange rate fluctuations. This is also the first cross-border RMB settlement project for shipping companies in Chongqing, China.

According to previous reports, on June 10, Sumec Marine (including the consortium: New Dayang Shipyard) successfully won the bid for Shanghai Minsheng Shipping’s newbuilding project for two 1,100-TEU feeder container ships.

So far this year, New Dayang Shipard has publicly announced several shipbuilding contracts, including four 64,100 DWT bulk carriers and four 50,000 DWT product tankers for Adhart Shipping of Singapore, and two 64,000 DWT bulk carriers for Kasuga Shipping of Japan.

According to the official website, Shanghai Minsheng Shipping was formerly known as Shanghai Branch of Minsheng Shipping. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Minsheng Shipping. and was rebuilt in 1985. The company is mainly responsible for container liner transportation on near-sea routes and domestic and foreign trade container cargo transportation in the Yangtze River Basin, especially the transportation of foreign trade imports via Shanghai along the Yangtze River to Chongqing, Luzhou, Sichuan and other southwestern hinterlands. At present, the company’s near-sea container liner routes include China-Japan container liner routes and Shanghai-Taiwan container liner routes.
