Zhoushan Changhong International Cuts Steel for the Seventh 11,400-TEU LNG Dual-Fuel Container Ship for Oceanroutes

Recently, Chinese shipbuilder Zhoushan Changhong International officially commenced construction on the seventh vessel in its series of 11,400-TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships, being built for Oceanroutes.

This series of vessels was jointly developed and designed by CIMC Ocean Engineering Design & Research Institute (CIMC ORIC) and Changhong International. The vessels have an overall length of approximately 299.95 meters, a molded breadth of 48.20 meters, and a depth of 27.0 meters, and are classed by DNV.

The vessel design incorporates key technologies such as an optimized wide-body hull, lightweight materials, and an integrated dual-fuel system. It also employs multiple energy-saving measures—including a wind shield, energy-saving duct, and high-efficiency twisted rudder—to effectively reduce main engine fuel consumption.

These features ensure compliance with the latest regulatory standards and achieve an energy-efficiency improvement of over 30% beyond the EEDI Phase III benchmark. The project successfully overcame core challenges regarding cost-efficiency, lightweighting, system integration, and construction techniques, serving as a significant industry benchmark.

This series comprises a total of 18 vessels; construction of the first vessel (Hull No.CHB2059) began on March 30, 2026, while work on the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth vessels commenced successively on April 10, May 15, June 10, July 10, and August 21.
