On September 14, Nanjing Shenghang Shipping (Shenghang Group) and China Merchants Industry Nanjing Shipyard (CMI Nanjing Shipyard) signed a contract for the construction of six 13,500 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers.
According to an announcement released by Shenghang Group on August 31, the total contract value for this batch of new vessels is RMB 995 million (including tax, approximately US$148 million), with delivery expected between 2028 and 2030.
This new batch of chemical/product tankers features 14 cargo tanks constructed from duplex stainless steel. Utilizing a “one tank, one pump, one pipeline” configuration, the vessels can simultaneously transport up to 14 different types of cargo, effectively meeting customer needs for the transport of high-end fine chemicals. This design enhances the fleet’s ability to accommodate diverse customer requirements—spanning multiple product categories, large volumes, extensive geographic coverage, and tight schedules—while continuously elevating Shenghang Group’s service capabilities and safety management standards in the high-end chemical transport sector.
Shenghang Group stated that this signing marks a significant collaboration between a shipping company and a shipbuilder, bringing together industry leaders. The project’s implementation will further optimize Shenghang Group’s fleet structure and increase the supply of domestic shipping capacity for high-end chemicals. At the same time, it will foster synergy among shipowners, shipbuilder, classification societies, and maritime authorities to jointly support the development of green shipping, injecting new momentum into logistics for the domestic chemical industry chain and the national strategy of building a strong maritime nation.
