On July 28, the first 8,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship built by CSSC’s Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) for Germany’s Tailwind Shipping Lines successfully launched, officially marking the start of the in-dock construction phase; on the same day, construction began on the second vessel of the series.


The vessel has an overall length of 261.4 meters, a beam of 42.8 meters, a draft of 24.3 meters, a design draft of 14 meters, a structural draft of 14.5 meters, a design speed of 20 knots, and a cargo capacity of 8,400 standard containers.
Drawing upon extensive experience gained from constructing large 16,000 TEU container ships, the construction team optimized the scheme for dividing hull blocks and mega-blocks and reduced the frequency of in-dock lifting operations. By establishing integrity targets for each construction stage, the team laid a solid foundation for efficient dry dock construction and high-quality vessel launching.
Guangzhou Shipyard International stated that, building on the construction technology used for the first vessel in this series (an 8,000 TEU ship), the design of subsequent vessels in the series has been further optimized and improved to ensure the orderly progress of block construction.
The smooth launching of the first vessel and the on-schedule commencement of construction on subsequent vessels mark that Guangzhou Shipyard International’s second-generation container ship series has officially entered a mature phase of large-scale, standardized mass production. Moving forward, Guangzhou Shipyard International will leverage its proven experience in container ship construction to continuously deepen lean management improvements, optimize technical processes, strictly control construction quality, and make every effort to ensure the efficient and orderly construction of the remaining vessels in this series.
