On July 23, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding broke ground on the construction of a 9,000-TEU dual-fuel container ship for Singapore-based Pacific International Lines (PIL).
Designed and developed independently by Hudong-Zhonghua, the 9,000 TEU dual-fuel container ship is an eco-friendly vessel specifically tailored to the operational needs of PIL. The vessel has a total length of approximately 274 meters, a beam of 45.6 meters, and a draft of 24.8 meters. It has a maximum container capacity of 9,040 TEU and can carry 1,308 reefer containers.
This vessel incorporates the latest design concepts and is equipped with high-efficiency main engines, energy-saving devices, shaft generators, high-voltage shore power systems, and other advanced features. A series of innovative designs endows this vessel with characteristics such as low overall energy consumption, high speed, and superior environmental performance.
Drawing on the proven processes and lean management practices accumulated through the production of ships in the same series, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding’s First Manufacturing Division has developed a standardized construction management plan for this ship type. By implementing standardized operating procedures, optimizing construction processes and workstation layouts, and balancing production capacity across work teams, the division has effectively reduced process wait times and eliminated production waste.
Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding stated that its production division will comprehensively advance lean management, implement lean production, and enforce closed-loop precision and quality control throughout the entire process. This will ensure a steady supply of high-quality intermediate section products for ship assembly and outfitting, thereby comprehensively ensuring production plan fulfillment rates and enabling rhythm-based production.
