The Yangzi Hongyuan Shipbuilding Project—a new shipbuilding base developed by Jiangsu-based private shipbuilder Yangzijiang Shipbuilding at a cost of tens of billions of yuan—has reached another key milestone: the 1,800-ton gantry crane built for the shipyard has recently completed testing and is rapidly moving toward full delivery.

With a lifting capacity of 1,800 tons, a span of 178 meters, and a hoisting height of 90 meters, this single-girder gantry crane is designed for large-span operations in shipyards. It features multiple independent trolleys, supporting various lifting modes including single lifting, tandem lifting, and mid-air turnover of ship sections. The crane offers a tandem lift capacity of up to 1,800 tons and a section turnover capacity of 1,000 tons, making it well-suited for handling large modules such as those for clean energy vessels.
GENMA Shipbuilding Gantry Cranes are recognized for their standardized and modular features, offering advantages in structure, wind resistance, positioning accuracy, energy efficiency, and ease of operation. The successful hoisting of this 1,800-ton crane demonstrates GENMA’s manufacturing and technical strength in the high-end lifting equipment sector.
In addition to the 1,800-ton large shipbuilding gantry crane, which is nearing full delivery, reports in April indicated that Yangzi Hongyuan Shipbuilding’s manufacturing workshop, block workshop, and piping and outfitting workshop have all become fully operational, with a total of 16 intelligent production lines across the three facilities. Currently, production has begun on Yangzi Hongyuan Shipbuilding’s first batch of new ship orders, and the fully operational workshops are working around the clock to fulfill these orders.
Yangzi Hongyuan Shipbuilding, was established in April 2024 and is still under construction, with completion scheduled for 2026. The Yangzi Hongyuan Shipbuilding project has a shoreline of approximately 1,320 meters and covers an area of approximately 1,300 mu (about 86.7 hectares). It will include a 300,000-tonnage dry dock, a 200,000-tonnage outfitting quay, and a 100,000-tonnage harbor basin, with an annual production capacity of approximately 800,000 deadweight tons. The shipyard is equipped with an 1,800-ton gantry crane with a span of 178 meters, a lifting height of 90 meters, a lifting capacity of 1,800 tons, and a turning capacity of 1,000 tons, capable of meeting the high-intensity lifting requirements for large sections of clean energy vessels and other similar projects.
Yangzi Hongyuan Shipbuilding is not the newest shipyard under Yangzijiang Shipbuilding. In April 2026, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding invested $100 million to establish Jiangsu Yangzi Hongda Ship Repair and Construction Co., Ltd. Including Yangzi Hongyuan and Yangzi Hongda, the number of shipyards under Yangzijiang has increased to six. The other four are New Yangzi Shipbuilding, Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding, Yangzi Mitsui Shipbuilding, and Zhoushan Tsuneishi Shipbuilding, which completed its capital injection in March 2025.
