On April 30, CSSC (Tianjin) Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC) under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), delivered the “CMA CGM D’Artagnan”, the second 15,000 TEU methanol-dual-fuel container ship built for France’s CMA CGM Group.

The “CMA CGM D’Artagnan” was independently built by CSSC (Tianjin) Shipbuilding and is designed with core advantages of “high efficiency, energy savings, and zero carbon emissions.” With a total length of 366 meters and a beam of 51 meters, the vessel has a designed capacity of 16,136 TEU. It represents a flagship vessel type in today’s global mainstream liner shipping market and is well-suited for operations on key routes such as Asia-Europe and trans-Pacific routes.
As the second vessel in the series of 15,000 TEU methanol-dual-fuel container ships, this vessel fully leveraged the construction experience gained from the first vessel, optimized construction processes and system commissioning plans, and achieved a 13-day reduction in key construction cycles compared to the first vessel. With a localization rate of over 70% for key equipment, it has laid a solid foundation for the high-quality, batch delivery of subsequent vessels in the series.
In terms of green and low-carbon operations, the vessel is equipped with an internationally advanced methanol-dual-fuel main engine that can flexibly switch between green methanol and conventional fuel. When using green methanol, its full-lifecycle carbon emissions are reduced by more than 90%, meeting Tier III emission standards. It boasts excellent performance, with a range of approximately 15,000 nautical miles in methanol mode and approximately 25,000 nautical miles in fuel mode. A single vessel can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 120,000 metric tons annually, equivalent to the carbon sequestration effect of planting 6.7 million trees, truly realizing the concept of “emission reduction through navigation.”
During construction, the vessel strictly adhered to all requirements set by Bureau Veritas (BV). Featuring an optimized hull design, high-efficiency propellers, and energy-saving systems, its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) is more than 60% lower than the international baseline standard. Combining low fuel consumption with high speed, the vessel significantly reduces operating costs for the shipowner.
Currently, the global shipping industry is accelerating its transition toward green and low-carbon operations, and methanol-dual-fuel vessels have become the mainstream development trend. The successful delivery of the “CMA CGM D’Artagnan” marks CSSC (Tianjin) Shipbuilding’s capability to mass-produce high-end green vessels.
