Recently, the first steel structure lifting was successfully completed for the sub-assembly and panel line workshop at New Dayang Shipyard. The project, an EPC undertaking led by CSSC NDRI focused on berth and dock productivity improvement and green smart manufacturing, has now moved from foundation work into the main structural construction phase.
It is reported that the project to enhance production efficiency and promote green and smart manufacturing at the shipyard’s slipway and dry dock is the third phase of technical upgrades since New Dayang Shipyard was established, and also the largest technical upgrade project in the company’s history. Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2026.
The new block assembly and welding workshop, as a core component of the project to enhance production efficiency at the shipbuilding slipways and dry docks and to advance green and smart manufacturing, represents a crucial step in the green and smart manufacturing transformation and capacity expansion of New Dayang Shipyard, a subsidiary of SINOMACH Sumec Marine. Designated as a key project in Jiangsu Province, the facility—once completed and put into operation—will comprehensively enhance New Dayang Shipyard’s level of smart manufacturing and section construction efficiency, thereby contributing to the quality improvement and upgrading of the shipbuilding and offshore engineering equipment industry chain.
Earlier reports indicated that the intelligent single-story steel-structure section assembly and welding workshop will cover an area of approximately 50,000 square meters. The workshop will feature two main spans—46 meters and 51 meters—capable of fully meeting the production requirements for the assembly and welding of large ship sections. Construction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2027. Once the project reaches full production capacity, the New Dayang Shipyard Base’s annual delivery volume is projected to increase to 36 vessels, with annual invoiced sales rising by approximately 1.5 billion yuan, thereby enhancing both production capacity and market competitiveness.
The New Dayang Shipyard Project to Enhance Production Efficiency of shipbuilding slipways and docks and promote green and smart manufacturing was officially contracted in April 2025. As part of the supporting construction for this project, New Dayang Shipyard is building new 800-ton and 300-ton gantry cranes, which are being constructed by Nantong Rainbow Heavy Machineries at a total cost of approximately 100 million yuan. This initiative will help improve the operational efficiency of the shipbuilding slipways.
New Dayang Shipyard, a subsidiary of Sumec Marine—part of the SUMEC Group—is located in the Lidian Shipbuilding Industrial Park in Hanjiang District, Yangzhou, and operates two production lines: a dry dock and a slipway. In recent years, New Dayang Shipyard’s order backlog has continued to rise, with the production schedule extending into early 2029; the company plans to deliver 30 vessels in 2026.
