On April 13, a 210,000 DWT green-fuel vessel built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Qingdao Beihai Shipbuliding set sail for sea trials.

This series of vessels features an overall length of 300 meters, a molded breadth of 50 meters, a beam of 50 meters, a design draft of 16.1 meters, and a structural draft of 18.4 meters, with a service speed of 14.5 knots. They comply with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Tier III emission standards as well as the requirements of Phase III of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI); furthermore, they can be retrofitted in the future with two 3,000-cubic-meter ammonia fuel storage tanks to achieve “zero-carbon” operation throughout their entire voyage.

It is reported that Beihai Shipbuilding currently has 25 vessels under construction and a order backlog of over 90 vessels, with green-fuel vessels accounting for more than 90% of the total; delivery dates for some of these vessels have been scheduled as far out as 2030.
