Just three days later, South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries secured another order for two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

On March 23, Samsung Heavy Industries announced that it had signed a contract with an Oceania-based shipping company to build two LNG carriers. The total value of the order is 770.1 billion won (approximately $510 million), which works out to about $255 million per vessel. Delivery is scheduled for November 2028.
This is the second LNG carrier order announced by Samsung Heavy Industries within a week. On March 20, Samsung Heavy Industries announced that it had received an order for one LNG carrier from an Oceania-based shipping company. According to market sources, the order came from Singapore-based Purus and is a follow-on order under the contract signed by the two parties in late 2025 for the construction of two 174,000 m³ LNG carriers.
With this latest order, Samsung Heavy Industries has secured orders for 14 new vessels worth $2.9 billion this year, achieving approximately 21% of its annual order target of $13.9 billion.
By vessel type, the fleet includes 6 LNG carriers, 2 ethane carriers, 2 container ships, and 4 crude oil tankers.
A Samsung Heavy Industries spokesperson stated, “Despite changes in the international landscape, global demand for LNG carriers remains stable. Moving forward, Samsung Heavy Industries will continue to focus on high-value-added vessel types, such as eco-friendly vessels and FLNGs, while maintaining its selective order strategy.”
