On August 6, Huarun Dadong Dockyard Co., Ltd. (HRDD) held a steel cutting ceremony for the BW Manzanillo FSRU conversion project it had undertaken.
HRDD stated that the design and equipment procurement phases for the project have largely concluded, and the project is now fully entering the stages of power plant module construction and cryogenic piping prefabrication.
Earlier this year, HRDD announced that it had signed a cooperation agreement with South Korea’s Hanwha Power Systems (HPS) to jointly provide a one‑stop turnkey FSRU (Floating Storage and Regasification Unit) conversion service for the “LNG BENUE” vessel, owned by Norway’s BW LNG.
Based on the project plan, the LNG carrier “LNG BENUE” is scheduled to enter the shipyard in early December 2026 for retrofitting, system commissioning, and other related work, with a construction period of six months.
The “LNG BENUE” is a 14.5-cubic-meter NO96-class LNG carrier that has been in service for 20 years. Following the retrofit, it will become a state-of-the-art offshore energy facility capable of receiving, storing, and regasifying LNG.
Thanks to advantages such as low initial investment, a short construction period, and flexible deployment, FSRUs have become a key solution for regional gas supply and seasonal peak-shaving amid the global energy transition.
