Venergy Maritime, a Greek shipping company, is accelerating its fleet expansion while planning to broaden its market footprint through newbuilding projects.

According to shipbroker sources, Venergy Maritime has placed an order for 2+2 Suezmax tankers with a deadweight tonnage of 158,000 tons at Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). The newbuilds will be equipped with scrubbers, with each vessel costing approximately $82 million. The total order value is estimated at around $164 million, with deliveries scheduled for 2029 and 2030.
This order for 2+2 Suezmax tankers marks Venergy Maritime’s official entry into the crude oil transportation sector. It also represents the latest initiative in Vyron Vasileiadis’ (Founder, Controlling Shareholder, and Group Chairman of Venergy Maritime) ambitious newbuilding program since he independently entered the shipping industry in 2025.
Reports indicate that in less than a year, Vyron Vasileiadis has invested nearly $1 billion across multiple tanker vessel types, securing over 20 ships through confirmed orders and options. According to incomplete statistics, this includes 4+2 113,500 DWT LR2 product tankers from New Times Shipbuilding, 2+2 158,000 DWT Suezmax tankers from Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, and nearly 10 50,000 DWT MR2 product tankers from K Shipbuilding.
Additionally, Venergy Maritime is actively expanding into the container shipping sector through its affiliated companies. It has placed two separate orders with Huangpu Wenchong for four 1,900 TEU feeder container vessels of the “Swan” class, aiming to diversify its fleet.
If confirmed, this order would mark Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding’s second publicly announced contract for Suezmax tankers in 2026. The first order also came from a Greek shipowner: Performance Shipping placed an order through its wholly-owned subsidiary for two 158,000 DWT Suezmax tankers, each valued at $81.5 million. These vessels are scheduled for delivery in October 2028 and May 2029, respectively.
This year, Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding has publicly announced four new ship orders, including four Suezmax oil tankers, two 11,000 TEU container vessels, and two 9,200 TEU methanol dual-fuel container vessels. The container vessel orders were placed by LC Logistics and Wan Hai Lines, respectively. The total value of the eight new vessels is approximately $800 million.
