On April 27, South Korea’s HJ Heavy Industries announced that it had received an additional order from a European shipowner for two 10,100 TEU container ships, with a contract value of 357.2 billion won (approximately US$257 million) and a price of approximately US$128.5 million per ship.

In early February this year, HJ Heavy Industry signed its first contract for 2+2 11,000 TEU container ships, attracting widespread attention in the industry. The latest order is an additional order for the first two ships of the same type.
HJ Heavy Industry stated that this vessel is the largest ship that can be built at its Yeongdo Shipyard. Its design is based on the company’s independently developed 7,700–9,000 TEU eco-friendly container ship, and through design optimization, the cargo capacity of both the deck and cargo holds has been increased.
The new ship is an eco-friendly container ship equipped with a scrubber system that complies with environmental regulations established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). In addition, it will be fitted with a shore power system, enabling the ship to shut down its engines while berthed and draw power from shore, thereby reducing air pollution.
With this order, HJ Heavy Industries has secured a total of four orders for 10,100 TEU container ships, enabling the company to boost efficiency through volume production.
It is reported that, building on the design of this 10,100 TEU eco-friendly container ship, HJ Heavy Industry has also completed the development of an LNG dual-fuel propulsion version of the same ship type.
